FAQs

How do I feed compressed hay?

You can feed it just like any other square bale, though the flakes are more tightly packed and thinner. One bale will feed a horse for about four days, with a bit left over.

How much does the hay bale weigh?

Bales average 62.5 lbs and measure 12x16x22—about the size of an Amazon box. A bundle of 24 totals roughly 1,500 lbs.

Do they explode when you cut the straps?

The straps pop loudly when cut, and if it’s good hay, the bale falls open like a loaf of bread.

How long is the hay good for?

With proper storage, kept dry and away from rodents, the hay will not expire.

Do you test your hay?

We test all hay that needs specific nutritional markers, especially focusing on sugar content and NSC levels in our grass hay.

Do we have hay for sale year-round?

We strive to maintain alfalfa, orchard grass, and alfalfa/orchard mix year-round; however, we are at the mercy of nature and subject to the conditions of the growing season. So far, we’ve never run out of all the hay, just certain types.
